Map of Conservation Districts

The Upper Rio Grande Watershed encompasses 7,828,451 acres of that 2,138,768 are farm and crop land, 1,059,960 are rangeland, 2193,851 are privately held acreages and remaining portion is public lands comprised of forest, wetland, and valley floor.  The Rio Watershed Association of Conservation Districts (RGWACD) is made of the five area conservation districts. Its member agencies have been working for the past 40 years to forward conservation learning, and sound natural resource planning, management, and development for private land owners.

The consortium of the five conservation districts includes the Center Conservation District, Conejos Conservation District, Costilla Conservation District, Mosca-Hooper Conservation District and the Rio Grande Conservation District.  Through collaborative partnerships the districts work to help landowners with a variety of management issues as well as keeping them abreast of the latest advances in soil, water and resource conservation.

As part of the  Colorado Association of Conservation Districts (CACD) and the Colorado State Conservation Board (CSCB) the Association has legislative ear to the ground as it pertains to land owner issues and works hard on land owner rights. The RGWACD invites you to become a part of the organization and get involved in your local conservation district – be a part of something bigger – Conservation Districts!
